Prose Poem: Those Who Are Complicit

You cannot care for people and embrace tyranny
You cannot care for mental health yet impose isolation on the suffering
You cannot care for knowledge and deny education
You cannot care for physical health yet close gyms, playgrounds, and cancel tests and treatments


You cannot care for bodily autonomy and force harmful measures in the name of health
You cannot care for families yet support forced distancing
You cannot care for hygiene and close toilets
You cannot care for small businesses while only allowing corporations to operate
You cannot care for community and keep libraries and cafes and places of worship and pubs closed
You cannot care for freedom of speech yet support censorship of dissent
You cannot care for privacy laws and support technology that tracks your every movement, nor support a cashless society
You cannot care for the poor and and disabled when so many rules affect them most of all;
those with no debit cards, those who rely on lip reading,
those who need to sit often or use the toilet frequently

You cannot live without some risk

If you shrug at the needs of so many vulnerable groups while claiming to care about everyone you are a hypocrite
If you shrug at suicides as collateral damage you show your lack of compassion and disdain for mental health
If you are willing to give up your way of life you are complicit in tyranny
If you are willing to forgo all human interaction and let authority outlaw any physical touch…
is there any hope for humanity at all.
